Jasper nods and puts a hand on Anaās shoulder. āI hope so too,but this is a victory, even if itās a melancholy victory, itās still a victory. Letās go inside. Iād like to give a little speech.
Heading inside Jasper walks to the podium. Addressing the survivors in city hall Jasper begins to speak.
āInheritorās, we have been battling to save our lost city, and while things have been quieting over the last few weeks today marks the first day we can say weāve reclaimed it. Today marks the end of one chapter, and the start of a new one, in the end we will reclaim Saliv. It is our destiny.
Now that things are beginning to settle many of us will be returning home, to our families, to those who love and miss us, but let us take a moment to remember those who will not. Those who risked their lives and lost for the Alliance. Those who stood tall and did what was right, even if it hurt.
Let us remember those who knew it was an uphill battle yet still fought. Let us remember them not as one but as individuals ā
Jasper reaches into his bag and pulls out a handful of metal necklaces: the dog tags of various fallen soldiers he spent the last couple of days trying to collect, and one by one hangs each of them on the walls of the town hall before returning to the podium
āBut their lives arenāt the only weāve lost. I can speak for most of us in saying it was hard striking down our neighbors, our brothers, our sisters was no easy task. no matter how warped they may be, they were still Salivians, they are still inheritors.
And though it was difficult, we saved them from a life of suffering of ceaseless pain and agony as their mutations took over them. And although we cannot ask them, I truly believe they would tell us that we made the right choice.ā
āIāve never been much of a religious man Iād like to offer a prayer for the souls of all our lostā
